The applicant must prove that he owns assets with an estimated total net worth in excess of £2 million.
- An absence of local residence:
The applicant must not have been resident in Gibraltar during the five years immediately preceding
the assessment year. Previous residence includes 183 days in a tax year in the previous 5 years or an average of 90 days in three of the previous 5 years.
- An approved choice of accommodation
The applicant must have a residential dwelling purchased or rented and approved by the Director of the Gibraltar Finance Centre for exclusive use.
The applicant must take out a private all-risk medical insurance policy covering Gibraltar which includes, among other things, the possibility of repatriation;
- An applicant's character relating documentation:
The applicant will be required to produce two independent letters of reference from recognised institutions/professionals, one from a bank and the other from a law or accountancy firm, a certified true copy of a valid passport and a full CV.
- All documents must be submitted or translated into English.
- The application fee is £1,000 and is non-refundable.
- A spouse and dependant of the applicant have the option of choosing to have their income assessed under the applicant's Category 2 scheme, or to apply for Category 2 status in their own right.
- There is no legal requirement as to how long a person must stay in Gibraltar in any given year. However, the relevant international residency rules must be taken into account.
